I Can See the Light

I pray I am not speaking too soon....but I think I may actually see the light at the end of this "sick" tunnel. You know the saying "when it rains, it pours"? Well, it's been raining from all orifices of both my boys. I know, that's gross, but I have been living it. I have washed more bed sheets and blankets in the last 10 days than I would normally wash in a year. Plus a half dozen loads of little boys laundry. I have cleaned carpets, Lysoled every inch of my house and have been taking extra greens to keep myself healthy. Poor Caleb, that kid just can't catch a break. I sure hope this is the beginning of the end of all of his troubles.

Now, I am looking forward to February. I am going to start Couch to 5k. I have been doing a lot better with my eating habits. I just have to get moving. I am not a runner, yet! I have never been athletic. I didn't play any sports. I was a cheerleader, on the pom squad and in the marching band. I guess you have to have some athletic ability to do those things. I am hoping that once I start this program though that I will fall in love with running like a lot of you have. You all inspire me to just put my feet to the pavement and see what happens. I have been looking into 5ks. I think the best motivation would be to just register for one so I know that I have to train for it. (yes, I just said train for a 5k) I really don't know that I could run a mile right now so I have a lot of "training" to do! Anyway, if any of you DFW peeps have suggestions on races send me an email or leave me a comment.

Here are some phone pics of what's been going on in the Sarchet house for the past week.....notice there are lots of cuddling pics. That is probably the only thing I like about having sick boys-they love to snuggle with their momma!

Have a great weekend y'all!

Any advice on C25K? Running shoes? Help a girl out here-I am a total newbie!

Pics and a Pick

It's Friday....again! My boys are napping, they are both very sick. We head to the doctor again this afternoon.
First things first, Welcome to all of my new followers and a Big Thanks to everyone who entered my giveaway. You guys have blown me away in the last week. I haven't had a chance to get back to every one's comments but I promise I will! There are so many of you with blogs that I want to check out!

The Pick:
The giveaway winner is Alma from Can I Borrow That? Go check out her weight loss journey! Alma, I have emailed you!

The Pics:
I didn't do a weekend recap post because I just had too much going on and it would have been a short story. (who has time to read that?) So, here is a weekend recap in pictures.

This is a real restaurant close to home. I fine the name super hilarious and slightly vulgar.
I just had to share it with everyone!

Thursday Truths

Let me just say, It has been a ROUGH week! I started typing a weekend recap post yesterday and realized I was writing a novel. So I just ditched it. Tomorrow I will do a pictures post from our weekend adventures. You will probably be happy to know that the post was mostly about how many assplosions Caleb had...and is still having! Oh, the joys of being a mommy!

And one last reminder that my giveaway ends today! Go enter here if you have not!

Alright.....Truth Time:

*I really hate the smell of vomit! Caleb is so sick. He coughs so hard he pukes. There is nothing worse than the smell of puked-up milk, hot dog, and cheese. That's the smell I got last night before I went to bed. Poor guy puked in his sleep. And I managed to get it all cleaned up, sheets changed, baby changed....without waking him. I impressed myself with that one.

*When one kid gets sick the other usually does too. So, Tuesday I took Caleb to the doctor. I knew he had a viral infection and they were not going to give him anything. But I was concerned about his ears since he just had tubes put in last week. (they look perfect!) As were we leaving I asked the nurse to take Seth's temp-he was acting very whiney and un-Seth like. Yep, 101! His assplosions started yesterday. (no puking, thank the Lord!) I kept them both home today from school.

*I am half Mexican. Random truth-I know! But if you follow me on instagram (@SimplySarchet) I made a reference to this today. My dad is as White as they come and my momma is Mexican. I cannot speak a lick of Spanish though. I do understand it however.

*I miss my brothers terribly. We have always been close-like best friends. I am going to visit them in about a month though.

*Hurting someone you Love sucks! Weather you hurt someone or are the loved one that was hurt. And that's all I have to say about that right now. This may be an entire topic here soon.

That is all I have time for today. I think my boys are about done with nap time. Happy Thursday! Picture post and the Giveaway Winner tomorrow!

Just a Quick Note

My plan for today was to.....
-drop the boys off at school
-grab some Starbucks
-shop for new bedding
-have lunch with J
-hit the grocery store
- start couch to 5k
-post a weekend recap
All before 2pm. Ambitious, yes. Doable, yes. Will it happen, no.
When I make plans like this something always happens....like a sick kiddo. Needless to say we are on our way to see the pedi for my sweet Caleb. I will post a recap later today and hopefully still get to start Couch to 5k....I don't want to put it off any longer!

Hope you are having a less crazy Tuesday!

Thursday Truths

Hey y'all! I am still here I just haven't been in a place mentally to blog. My hubs had his annual work "kick off" meeting last Thursday-Saturday, so I was single parenting....which is always overwhelming. Plus, my best friend & her family were in town as well as my in-laws. So it was a crazy weekend. Then, on Monday, Caleb had tubes put in his ears. And the rest of the week has kind of flown by.

Let me also say welcome with a big ole Texas HOWDY!!! to all my new followers. Most of y'all found me through Mama Laughlin....she is just so awesome and a true inspriation to me! So thanks for following me on this journey and welcome, welcome, welcome. New people make me Happy, Happy, Happy!!! (Yes, I LOVE Duck Dynasty!)

Check back tomorrow because I will have my second give away posted.......FUN STUFF!!!!!!!

Ok....I am going to do some recapping and truths all in one!
*Single parents rock! (especially if you have to work full time and be a single parent) I get so overwhelmed, exhausted, cray cray that I just cannot imagine having to work full time (outside of the home) and take care of my boys on top of that. I will say staying home with my boys is a full time job, more than full time, but it is the most rewarding job I could have ever been privileged to work. I love them with every fiber of my being....even when I want to ship them off to Timbuktu for forever! So, a BIG shout out to all you ladies & gentlemen who do it on your own, all of the time!

*I miss my BFF, Courtney, and her family. We are so blessed that Dan, Courtney, and Jake are not just our best friends but they truly are family. We all ended up in Spring, Texas back in 2009 (before kids) and we were just meant to be best friends. Dan joined the Army the same month we moved back to DFW. He just returned home from a year long deployment. So they were in town for about a week to visit all of their DFW peeps. We did have them over for dinner on Monday and it was just like old times....plus 3 kids! (so, a little crazy!) The headed home on Tuesday and it just makes me sad to be so far away from them. But, Lord willing, we will be back in the same Metro area in the next couple of years!

*Dieting/Exercise SUCKS!!!! I weighed in yesterday for a .2 pound loss.....I so don't even consider that a loss! Whatever! I am sure it will just take some time to see the changes on the scale. I feel good. I feel like I am making smarter food choices and drinking a ton of water. I am not exercising as much as I should be. My mom and I are going to try Zumba on Monday night. Let's hope I like it!

*And the last one....I am not sure blogging is for me. I really don't know if I will keep this little thing going. It can easily consume you and I don't need anything else pulling me in another direction. I have my hubby, my boys, a business that I NEED to focus on, and I need to work on losing these 35 pounds. I know that I cannot be a blogger that posts everyday. We will see what happens.

And no post is complete with out pictures.....
(the boys in their new chairs from Mimi & Papa)
(mad because they just gave him meds)
(a little drugged and headed back for his surgery)
(so exhausted he fell asleep in his high chair)
Have a terrific Thursday, see y'all tomorrow!

Thursday Truths & We Have a Winner!

First off, thanks to those of you that entered my first giveaway! The lucky winner is Alexis. You can check out her blog here.  I will have another giveaway of a few of my favorite things next week so check back for that. I got my prize from Lindsey in the mail this week and let me just say I am loving the Baby Lips lip gloss. Also, another reminder (begging request) to leave me a comment if you are stopping by for the millionth first time. (yes, you...the stalker) I am always looking for new blogs to check out and this is the easiest way to network.
Ok, now to get to the "truths" part of this post.
(Maybe just one truth today)
*I feel miserable. I loathe my body. I don't even want to have sexy time because I am just in that deep dark place right now. And it SUCKS!!!!! I think I have finally hit rock bottom. I stocked up on fresh fruits, veggies, SmartOnes (I actually like them), and have made a commitment to drink only water. (not sure about this since I am a coffeeholic) Here is the dreaded scale picture:

(175.8)

My goal is to get down to 140. That is an absolutely attainable goal. I just have to stick with it. And when you break down that 35 pounds it is less than 3 pounds a month. Seriously?!?! It's got to be done! I am not ready to put up before pictures. I have them and maybe once I see some progress I will be comfortable with that. But, if I don't want the hubs to see that there is no way I can share it with the whole wide world.

Here are some old school pictures of me.....I was not always this big. I was very small for a very long time. And truth be told, having babies is not the reason for the extra weight-I have zero excuse other than plain laziness and I LOVE to eat. Sometimes, I wish my hubby wasn't such and awesome cook!

No judging allowed.......
2003-I was addicted to the tanning bed....not good!
2006-Our first trip to Vegas (the smallest I've ever been)

Christmas 2006

2007-Summertime with my brothers
2008-Honeymoon

And I think it went downhill from there.....but here's to making BIG changes in 2013!

What happened to Monday?

Seriously? I swear I totally skipped a day. Not that it's a bad thing but I must have been on a mental vacation yesterday.  {Ok, side note-it has been cloudy and drizzly all morning. It was totally quiet and peaceful outside and all of sudden it's now raining cats and dogs. It was kind of creepy-dead silence to crazy down pour.} Back to yesterday, I think part of it has to do with the fact that I have not been sleeping well at all lately. I'm talking two or three hours if I'm lucky and it has finally caught up to me. So Sunday night I took an entire Ambien, if/when I take them I usually only take half of one, to help shut my brain off and get some rest. I was so out of it I don't remember J leaving for work, I didn't lock the door behind him (which freaks me out), and I don't remember much of the morning. Talk about a drug induced hangover. Not cool. Yes, I did sleep but I think I will stick to a half pill if necessary.

Last night was the National Championship game. I am a HUGE college football fan! Texas Tech is my main team but Notre Dame is my second favorite. I've been a Red Raider since birth but a Irish fan for about 12 years. Needless to say, I was completely disappointed with the game. I dislike the SEC and hope that the BCS will change to a playoff system similar to the NFL soon! Enough about that!

We had a good weekend. J and I had a date night on Saturday and went to see "This is 40". It was totally hilarious. I think the comedic factor was greatly improved due to the fact that we have kids. I also found it to be very eye opening. I am truly trying to work on myself; to be a better person, wife, mother, business owner; and I think there were a lot of silent truths in the movie. Sunday, my parents took the boys for a few hours. J and I went looking for a new bedding and had a nice quiet lunch. The boys had a blast with gran-gran & g-pa. Lucky for us they also picked up some lovely germs and had diarrhea. (too much info, I know)(but this is where I put it all out there!)

Just a reminder that my giveaway is still going on and will end tomorrow. Check it out here.

And, since no post is complete with out pictures here is a weekly recap collage........

It's Friday....and Giveaway Time

When you're a stay at home mom Friday kind of loses its meaning unless you have big plans. My little guy is sick so we have no plans, we usually don't anyway. But for my hubby....he LOVES Friday. He always sings this little tune "It's Friday Alrighty, It's Friday Alrighty." Kind of silly, I know. He is always making up his own little tunes or changing the words to Country songs. It's one of the things I love most about him. He always makes me laugh. Anyway, the boys were up before 6 this morning. Boo! I don't know what the deal was. But they are both napping and I pray they stay down for a while. I have a ton of cleaning up to do. I hate starting the weekend off with a messy house. My bestie, Courtney, posted a pic on Instagram last night of her whipping up some cookies for her boys. Funny thing was I was standing in the kitchen at that very moment wondering what I could bake for my boys. I decided on Pumpkin Muffins since I had a can of pumpkin left from Thanksgiving. I ended up baking them this morning since we were up so early. The were delicious. The only thing I changed in the recipe was I used ground cloves, cinnamon, all spice and ginger instead of pumpkin pie spice. It tastes better to me that way.

(recipe here)

Now, on to the real reason you are reading this post, The giveaway!

I am still new to this blogging thing and have no idea what people want when it comes to a giveaway. (feel free to leave suggestions) I just won my first ever last week thanks to Lindsey. So I figured since it is the start of a new year, and most people are working on getting healthy, losing weight, blah blah blah, that I would give away one of those crazy wrap things. If you don't know what I'm talking about you can read about them here. It is as close to a miracle as you can get. Now, it is not a "fix all" and it's not going to miraculously make you lose weight. But chances are you will see some pretty awesome results. I am also going to include one weeks worth of greens on the go. It's like a Crystal Light pack that you put in your bottle of water. These are my second must have after a cup of coffee in the morning. Here is a picture of my own personal results from using the "skinny wrap" as well as the It Works defining gel. (Maybe that will be my next giveaway?)
(after 2 wraps)

Here is the info....send your friends my way too!

Have a great weekend!

Dilemma and a Rant

Hey, you...yes, you.....new reader(s).....I know you are stalking my blog. I see the stats. Leave me a comment, say Hello, and if you want to come back often please do. Click that little button over there to the right to become of follower of Simply Sarchet. I would love it!

Ok, now that I've gotten that out of the way I can move on.
I don't have anything specific today.

Here is my dilemma:
We are supposed to be traveling to Jonesboro, Arkansas tomorrow for my cousins wedding. I am on the verge of cancelling. Caleb isn't feeling great, still! He was diagnosed with RSV a few weeks ago, has had an ear infection, and it just plain crabby. Jonesboro is about a 9 hour drive for us. Both boys are usually really good in the car but still, we would have to stop often for diaper changes, meals, etc. I just don't think Caleb is up to it and I don't want to be dealing with all of that away from home. I feel just awful about not going. My favorite aunt & uncle, who live in Oregon, will be there and I hardly ever get to see them. It is such a tough decision.

This morning we had a play date at the mall "play place" (loads of germs, I know) with a couple of boys from Seth's class. The boys have been out of school for 3 weeks and go back on Tuesday. It has been so cold here over the last few weeks that I haven't taken them out at all. It was nice break and good for them to hang out and run around together. After an hour of running around we had lunch at the food court and headed home. They were both fast asleep when I pulled in the driveway.

And here is my Rant:
Let me back track a second to our time at the play area. So, Caleb is 13 months old. Most of the kids were anywhere from 2-6 years old. There were a couple of moms sitting in the corner with a younger infant, by the entrance, and right next to one of the climbing things (a pig). Caleb kept going over to play on the pig. They had a fluffy jacket and a stuffed elephant sitting there and he picked up the toy. To me this is completely normal behavior. That mom acted as if my child has some crazy disease and was a total B to him, a 13 month old. I moved Caleb back over to the other side by where we were sitting and he took off again for the pig. This time he picked up the jacket and again, the mom was a B. I picked up my kid, looked at the chick and as nice as I could said "he is just a baby too and you're supposed to leave your stroller & things outside of the play area" and just walked away. How would you have handled that? I was a bit hot, but was as nice as could be. Shortly after that she moved her strolled and junk outside. Did I over react? Should I have kept my mouth shut? My thought is, if you don't want your stuff touched by other kids, don't bring it to the play area or keep it out of reach. Ok, mommy rant over.

Well, this post is getting pretty long. Check back tomorrow-I'm planning my first give away and will have some of the details posted.

Liebster Award

Alright, alright, alright (name that movie?).....I've been nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by Once Upon a Canvas and Poisoned Perception. (Rebecca, I apologize that I am just now responding to your nomination.) I'm a terrible blogger, and really don't deserve this fun little award, but I guarantee y'all will be sick of me in 2013!

The Liebster Blog Award is an award given by bloggers to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It's to show new bloggers that they are appreciated, and to help spread the word about new blogs. It was created to promote appreciation and recognition among the blog world. Liebster translates to "dearest" (or favorite/best) in German. It is also known as the Love Blog Award.

The Rules:
1. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
2. Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.
3. Create 11 questions for the people you nominate.
4. Choose 11 blogs you love (with less than 200 followers) and link them in your post.
5. No tag back (but please leave me a comment on this post with the URL to your Liebster post so I can learn more about you)!

And, here we go......

11 Random things about me:
1. I love my coffee with lots of FULL FAT cream!
2. My mother is Hispanic but I can't speak a lick of Spanish.
3. J and I met because we were set up on a blind date.
4. I love camping and fishing and one day dream of owning a house on the Texas coast.
5. I am not a very good swimmer.
6. I used to hate cooking but have recently developed a thing for it.
7. I already have my daughters name picked out...if I ever have one. (but chances are we are done)
8. I don't like chocolate. (neither does my hubby)
9. I could eat steak (or Tex-Mex) for every meal!

So long, Farewell.....2012

So long, farewell
Auf Weidersehen, goodbye (Name that movie :))

Well, here we are on the Eve of a New Year. Is it just me or does time seem to be passing at a very fast pace?

There are so many things running though my head tonight. My sweet boys are tucked in tight, J is watching college football and I'm just sitting here battling some inner turmoil. 2012 was a great year. But 2013 is going to be AMAZING! It's so easy for me to look back at this past year and only see the bad. (This is something I will work on this new year) But I have so many good memories of 2012. I'm going to hit a few lows but mostly highs of 2012.

*Biggest low-emergency gall bladder removal in January that led to retained gall stones, that led to jaundice, that led to another surgery, that led to internal bleeding that put me in ICU. Absolute worst/scariest time of my life. But also a blessing because it was a wake up call to me regarding my health.
*I turned 30 and the world didn't end. ;)
*J and I took a much needed kid free vacay to Vegas
*Caleb was treated for plagiocephaly by wearing a docBand for 10 weeks (at first this was a low for me but it ended being one of the best things we could have done for him)
*We took a family vacation,  9 adults & 4 kids, down to the coast and it was amazing.
*My dad was able to find full time work after being unemployed for 4 years.
*The boys started going to a wonderful Day School that has given me a little bit of my sanity back
*We had a very blessed Holiday Season
*I joined a company that I know is going to change our lives financially in 2013

I could probably bullet point all night long but I'll spare you. These are the ones that stick out to me the most. Here are some goals and things I would like to do in 2013.

*Lose 35 pounds. I know this is going to be hard, I know I am going to need help, support, and encouragement. But I cannot continue to live the way I have been.
*Buy a new car. My car is 6 years old, paid off, with 120, 000 miles on it. It's been the best car and it is the first car I've ever purchased and paid off myself. But with 2 boys, this mama needs something bigger.
*Take a tropical vacation with J for our 5 year anniversary. (another reason I need to lose the weight)
*Run a 5k-yes, I know that's only a few miles but I have NEVER been a runner and I have to start somewhere!
*Stay committed to this blog. It is my outlet and I need to give it 100%!
*Work my buns off building my It Works business. This will allow me to continue to be a stay at home mama, help my family, give to charity/missions/church, and live debt free.

I am looking forward to 2013. This is going to be MY year! I hope it's yours too!

I will leave you with some of my favorite pictures of 2012, video style...........

And our traditional New Years Day must have:
 Black Eyed Pea Dip
•16 oz. can of black eyed peas, drained & mashed
•1 stick of butter •4 chopped green onions
•4 oz. can of chopped green chilies
•1 tsp garlic powder
•8 oz. velvet a cheese cut into small cubes
Combine all ingredients and microwave of warm in crockpot. I prefer to use the crockpot and we usually double the recipe because it is delicious!
Serve with tortilla chips or make nachos with it.
Hope y'all enjoy it as much as we do!
